There’s something refreshing about a brand that doesn’t try too hard to be cool. It just is. That’s exactly how MAKU feels.

New to EDNA this season, MAKU is the Melbourne label created by artist Maku Fenaroli, where every graphic begins as original artwork before being transformed into wearable pieces. The result is a collection that feels nostalgic, expressive, slightly chaotic and completely unapologetic in the best possible way. Think oversized graphics, playful illustrations, relaxed silhouettes and strong 90s energy stitched through every piece.

But what makes MAKU stand out isn’t just the clothes. It’s the story behind them.

The brand was born at one of the lowest points in Maku’s artistic career, at the exact moment she was ready to give up art completely. Instead of walking away, she decided to give herself one final chance to create something different. Something less polished, less predictable and more honest. That decision became MAKU.

It’s a story that feels incredibly relatable right now. We spend so much of our lives talking ourselves out of the things we actually want to do. We convince ourselves we’re too late, not talented enough, too unrealistic or too different. MAKU exists as proof of what can happen when you ignore that voice and just do the thing anyway.

That spirit runs through the entire brand. The graphics are playful, weird, nostalgic and full of personality. A banana telephone graphic. Farm-fresh veggie artwork straight out of an old market poster. Giant SALT graphics for the chaotic days. Cool bunny illustrations, oversized cat graphics and wide-leg pinstripe pants that feel like they walked straight out of a 90s film camera roll.

The pieces feel lived in immediately, like they already belong in your wardrobe from the first wear. The oversized tees are made for layering under jackets, throwing over long sleeves or pairing back with denim, trackpants or lace skirts. It’s effortless dressing without feeling boring.

The New Season
This season, MAKU introduces The Farmer Collection, a range inspired by slowing down and escaping the pressure and noise of city life. Created from the perspective of a city girl romanticising the calm and simplicity of farmland, the collection explores comfort, familiarity and everyday dressing that feels grounding rather than performative.

It also arrives at the perfect time, because fashion is shifting away from perfection again. Winter 2026 street style is leaning heavily into individuality, personality and nostalgia. Oversized silhouettes are dominating, graphic tees are becoming statement pieces again and people are moving away from ultra-clean, minimal dressing in favour of layered outfits that feel expressive and personal.

We're seeing the rise of what people are calling 'farmcore', a mix of vintage workwear, oversized stripes, utility details and rural-inspired styling that feels relaxed, grounded and slightly undone. At the same time, there’s a huge return to chaotic accessorising, playful layering and clothes that feel collected over time rather than bought all at once. MAKU fits naturally into that space.

What we love most though is that the brand never feels too serious. In a world where fashion can sometimes feel overly polished and impossible to keep up with, MAKU reminds us that getting dressed should still be fun. Art shouldn’t always have to be profound. Clothes shouldn’t always have to make sense. Sometimes the best pieces are simply the ones that make you smile when you put them on.

That feels pretty important right now.
