If you’ve stopped by Edna (and if you haven’t, we suggest you do!), you may have noticed something truly special about our walls - they’re made from a revolutionary Kiwi product called saveBOARD.
What’s saveBOARD, you ask?
saveBOARD is a low-carbon, eco-friendly building material made from upcycled packaging right here in New Zealand. By repurposing materials like milk and juice tetrapaks, saveBOARD takes recognisable brands and packaging and transforms them into something entirely new. If you look closely at our walls, you might even spot some familiar logos!
How’s it made? The process involves taking tetrapaks, mixing them with soft plastics, and then heating and pressing them into durable sheets. The result? A sustainable, waste-reducing product that helps keep trash out of local landfills.
What’s NOT in saveBOARD?
ZERO chemicals, glues, or adhesives. The plastic in the packaging acts as the binder, making it a completely additive-free product.
Imperfectly Perfect
If you’re after a flawless, polished finish, saveBOARD may not be for you. But that’s exactly why we love it! Every board tells its own story, with creases, lines, and press marks that show the transformation from everyday waste to something beautifully practical. These details aren’t flaws - they’re a testament to the journey of reducing waste and creating sustainable building materials.
At Edna, we’re proud to be part of that journey. By using saveBOARD, we’ve saved over 200kg of packaging waste from going to landfill!
Circular Solutions
What makes saveBOARD even cooler? It’s fully recyclable. Any offcuts or end-of-life products can be repurposed into new boards, creating a truly circular system.
So next time you visit Edna, take a moment to appreciate the walls - they’re more than just walls. They’re a statement of sustainability and a step towards a better future.
